In 2016, when Joya de Nicaragua revamped its Caibnetta Serie as the Joya Cabinetta, the lancero vitola was a casualty of the rebrand as the size was discontinued. Now in 2024, the long, slender vitola is making a limited-edition return, as Joya de Nicaragua has announced that it will be debuting at the 2024 PCA Convention & Trade Show later this month.
“At every cigar event, the question pops up: ‘What about the Cabinetta Lancero?'” said Juan Martínez, executive vp of Joya de Nicaragua, via a press release. “We get it; there’s a certain charm to the elegance and rich experience of a great Lancero, but let’s face it – it’s a niche favorite. So, ‘by popular demand,’ here it is the Cabinetta Lancero Limited Edition for 2024…and trust us, it’s better than ever!”
In keeping with the Joya Cabinetta line’s signature look and blend, the cigar uses two wrappers, an Ecuadorian shade-grown leaf that covers the part below the band, and a darker, Nicaraguan habano criollo leaf above the band. Underneath those wrappers is a Nicaraguan-grown binder and filler, a blend created in 2007 by Dr. Alejandro Martinez Cuenca. The company calls it a creamy, silky and smooth smoke that gets a spicy twist in the final third.
Production is extremely limited, with just 1,000 boxes of 20 cigars available worldwide.
