Crowned Heads first branched out of the Dominican Republic in 2014, partnering with the My Father Cigars factory of Nicaragua for what has become one of the most beloved annual releases of the last decade: Las Calaveras.

The line's name translates to The Skulls, referencing the iconic La Calavera Catrina etching from roughly 1910-1912. Known as "The Dapper [female] Skull," the etching depicts a female skeleton wearing an elaborate hat, which has since become closely associated with the Mexican holiday Día de Muertos, or Day of the Dead. Crowned Heads combines both the etching and holiday with the cigar's concept, featuring skull imagery and using each annual release to honor the lives of close friends/family that have recently passed.

Twenty twenty-four is a milestone year for the Las Calaveras series, marking its 10th anniversary. As such, Crowned Heads has partnered with the García family and their highly respected My Father Cigars factory once more, releasing not one, but two cigars to mark the occasion! This includes the standard Crowned Heads Las Calaveras Edición Limitada 2024 cigar, as well as the more elite Las Calaveras Décimo Aniversario blend, which was made to signify the impressive anniversary. In terms of the Crowned Heads Las Calaveras EL 2024, the cigars feature a Nicaraguan puro recipe, being topped with a Habano-seed wrapper. This makes for an overall experience that's said to be most similar to the 2015 release, offering a medium-full intensity and zesty flavors of cabinet spice, toasted oak, cinnamon, and anise/leather through the finish.
